Biography
Art Blakey (1919-1990) is one of the most legendary drummers and bandleaders in jazz history. Blakey first became known as one of the best drummers in the bebop era in the 1940’s. In the 1950’s he launched his own band called “The Jazz Messengers.” Art Blakey and The Jazz Messengers was one of the biggest bands in the hardbop movement in 1950’s and 1960’s. Aside from his remarkable ability to bring together and lead a band, Blakey’s playing is marked by unmatched groove and high energy.
