Chris Potter
Bio
Chris Potter was born in 1971 in Chicago, Illinois, but he would soon relocate to Columbia South Carolina. He would go on to attend college in New York, first at The New School for Jazz, and then at Manhattan School of Music. He has been one of the most prominent jazz saxophone figures since his emergence on the global scene in the early 1990’s. He was routinely named on the Downbeat rising stars list in the early 2000’s in addition to a staggering output of recorded music. Chris Potter has led many groups which cover many different styles. He has recorded straight ahead, Funk, Rock, and ‘modern’ jazz. Some of his best known albums are ‘Lift: Live at the Village Vanguard’, ‘Underground’, ‘Gratitude’ and ‘Imaginary Cities.’ He has recorded with an incredible list of musicians including Pat Metheny, Marcus Gilmore, David Binney, Scott Colley, Paul Motian, Dave Douglas, John Patitucci and Steely Dan.
