Christian McBride
Bio
Christian McBride was born in 1972 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He initially started to play music on the bass guitar before switching to upright bass. He eventually attended the Juilliard school for upright bass. Christian McBride is one of the best bassists from the end of the 20th century onward. In his early career he was mentored by a host of older musicians including Bobby Watson, Freddie Hubbard, Milt Jackson, J.J. Johnson, and Hank Jones. His style can be characterized as having one of the punchiest, largest tones around, but can be diversely applied to many different genres of music. He has played funk, free jazz, hard bop, modern jazz, and everything in between to high acclaim. Christian McBride has literally played with every jazz musician you have ever heard, but a short list of those musicians contains, Joshua Redman, Brian Blade, Brad Mehldau, Christian Sands, Marcus Strickland, The Roots, Roy Hargrove, Chris Potter, Mulgrew Miller, and so many others.
