Bio

Joshua Redman was born in Berkeley, California in 1969. He is the son of famed jazz tenor player Dewey Redman. Initially heading to Yale Law School, he deferred his admission for what he thought would only be one year. During this time, he relocated to New York City, won the Thelonious Monk Jazz Competition on the tenor sax, and began to play and tour regularly with some of the top musicians in New York at that time. His playing can be described as firmly rooted in the hard bop tradition, but played with such a tone and soul that brings it fully into the 21st century. Some of his best known associations are with Brad Mehldau, Christian McBride, Brian Blade, Eric Harland, Reuben Rogers, Dave Holland, Pat Metheny, Billy Higgins, Aaron Parks, Matt Penman, Ray Brown, Chick Corea, and Stevie Wonder.
