Natalie Cressman

Biography

New York City based singer, songwriter, and trombonist Natalie Cressman comes from a musical family, with two parents deeply fascinated by jazz and Brazilian music. She initially aspired to become a dancer, but an injury in high school derailed those dreams. However, she soon found success as a trombonist, playing with a variety of latin jazz and avant garde bands before even graduating high school. Cressman attended Manhattan School of Music, where she studied with great trombonists like Luis Bonilla and Wycliffe Gordon. Since then, Cressman has evolved into a truly multi-genre artist. She plays styles ranging from latin jazz and Brazilian music to funk and pop. Cressman has played with artists like Nicholas Payton, Phish, Anat Cohen, Carlos Santana, and Trey Anastasio. Her most recent project, Setting Rays of Summer (2019) with Brazilian guitarist Ian Faquini, draws from impressionism, jazz, and Brazilian tradition.
