Biography

Rudresh Mahanthappa was born in 1971 in Trieste Italy. He spent most of his early life in Boulder Colorado, before going on to receive his Bachelors of Music from Berklee College of Music, and his Masters in Composition from DePaul University in Chicago. He moved to New York City in 1997 where he has been located ever since. Rudresh is one of the most unique alto saxophonists alive today. His own personal style is just that; he does what few before him have done. He fuses jazz, jazz fusion and traditional Indian classical music to create a pulsating and vibrant global brand of improvised music. He boasts a large list of accomplices, including Vijay Iyer, Bunky Green, Craig Taborn, Jason Robinson, Steve Lehman and others.
