Charter School Residency Program
Charter School Residency program
In our charter school residency program, Jazz Empowers instructors go into low income charter schools to start and run jazz programs.
At most of our placement schools, Jazz Empowers is the only instrumental music program they have. This allows us to help provide an exciting opportunity to learn music that our students wouldn't typically have.
The programs meet 2-3 times a week after school for the entire school year. Most of the school year is spent in full band rehearsal, however over the course of the school year we bring in supplementary instructors to teach sectionals and private lessons to students.
As part of our instrument scholarship program, all of the students that cannot afford an instrument receive one that they can take home and use for the entire school year, free of any cost or rental fee.
Our bands work toward performing an end of year concert where students get to perform for their families and school community.
We have a variety of options available to schools based on each school’s goal for their jazz program. Our three options include jazz bands, group jazz piano classes, and bucket drumming
In order to be considered for one of Jazz Empowers placement schools, each school needs to fill out an application. The application for our Charter School Residency Program for 2018-2019 has closed, but will be open again in February of 2019. If you have any questions, contact apply@jazzempowers.org.
