This quote is from a second year Jazz Empowers student at a Muchin College Prep, a low-income serving charter school in Chicago.
Before last school year, Muchin did not have a band program despite having some of the highest standardized test scores in the city. In August 2018, Jazz Empowers launched a partnership with Muchin to start a jazz band class at the school. Jazz Empowers hired a highly-qualified educator to teach the class and provided over 20 instruments free of charge to all of the students in the program. The program flourished in its first year, cultivating with the jazz band performing at the Lyric Opera House in downtown Chicago for the school’s graduation ceremony. The program has continued to grow in its second year, providing students a creative outlet amidst their rigorous academic schedule.
We are currently in the midst of our 2020 fundraising campaign, with a goal of raising $8,000 by December 31st. We would like to invite you to partner with us for this campaign. The funds raised will help support Muchin College Prep, and the rest of our programs, by helping us provide extra rehearsals as we prepare for second semester performances. Your donation will also support our expansion to more schools for the 2020-2021 school year, which will help us serve hundreds of more students.
