Hiromi
Biography
Known for her virtuosic hybridity and inventive compositions, Hiromi’s mastery of jazz in combination with rock, fusion, and classical music has captivated audiences in and beyond her home country of Japan. A graduate of the Berklee College of Music, she co-produced her first album Another Mind (2003) with renowned jazz figurehead Ahman Jamal. That year she was the recipient of the Recording Industry Association of Japan’s Jazz Album of the Year Award, a forecast for her impending stardom.
Her sound boasts an energetic and innovative approach to improvisation and composition. Throughout her career she has shared the stage with pianist Chick Corea, with whom she performed a 2009 duet concert in Tokyo. She was featured on Stanley Clarke’s Grammy-winning release Jazz Garden and frequently tours with her core trio consisting of bassist Anthony Jackson and drummer Simon Phillips.
