Bio

Jeff Coffin was born in 1965 in Massachusetts, but raised in Dexter, Maine. Jeff Coffin would gain early prominence as a member of the flecktones, a funk and fusion group led by the banjo player Bela Fleck. He would subsequently establish himself as a leading saxophonist in Jazz, Funk, R&B, Rock, Fusion, and Pop. In 2008, after the death of Dave Matthews Band saxophonist LeRoi Moore, Coffin would join the band first temporarily and then permanently. He is currently on the music faculty at Vanderbilt University. Jeff Coffin’s style is as genre-defying as the man himself, he has found a way to express a wide range of emotion through many different styles and saxophones. A gifted doubler, he continues to record with his own group, the Mu’tet.
