J.J. Johnson (1924-2001) is know as one of the most influential trombonists in jazz history. Johnson became a pioneer in the 1940’s, showing the world how the fast, technical aspects of bebop could be applied on the trombone. Johnson is known for his huge sound, flawless articulation, and his beautiful compositions and arrangements. Johnson had an extensive performing and recording career with many jazz greats including Miles Davis, Stan Getz, Freddie Hubbard, and many more. Johnson also released over thirty albums as a leader between the 1940’s and 1990’s.
