John Scofield
Bio
John Scofield was born in 1951 in Ohio, but his family soon relocated to Connecticut, where he discovered his interest in music. He would go on to attend school at Berklee College of Music, but would leave school to record with Chet Baker and Gerry Mulligan. Shortly after this association, he would join the Billy Cobham/ George Duke Band and tour extensively. He would go from there to record with Charles Mingus, Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, Joe Lovano, and many others. John Scofield’s style stands at the intersection of Jazz, Rock, Funk, and R&B. He has helped to add a hard edged funk influence to the mainstream jazz lexicon. Some of his other collaborators are Joe Henderson, Joey DeFrancesco, Robert Glasper, John Mayer, and Gov’t Mule.
