Kenny Barron
Biography
Kenny Barron (1943-Present) was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and he is widely regarded as one of the most influential voices in jazz piano. As a high school student, Barron worked with drummer Philly Joe Jones and the Mel Melvin Orchestra. At only 19, he relocated to New York City where he began working with Roy Haynes, James Moody and Lee Morgan. Later in his career he went on to work with other jazz greats such as Dizzy Gillespie, Freddie Hubbard, Sonny Stitt, Stan Getz, and many others. Barron’s playing style is characterized by strong, lyrical melodies and impeccable technique. Barron has released more than 40 albums under his name, and appears as a sideman on more than 100 records by other musicians.
