Kevin Eubanks
Biography
Though many people recognize Kevin Eubanks (b. 1957) for his work with the Tonight Show Band, a seriously skilled musician underlies his humorous and outgoing personality. Eubanks comes from a musical family, and his brothers Robin and Duane have also made careers in music. After concluding his studies at Berklee College of Music, Kevin Eubanks began playing with jazz greats like Art Blakey, Sam Rivers, McCoy Tyner, and Ron Carter. His debut record, Guitarist, released in 1983, and featured musicians he plays with today like tenor saxophonist Ralph Moore and his brother Robin. The album’s powerful sound showcased Eubanks’ versatility as an artist, and led to a seven record contract with GRP. The resulting albums solidified his position as a leading voice in contemporary jazz. Eubanks joined the Tonight Show Band in 1992, becoming the show’s bandleader in 1995. Though this was his main project until his departure in 2010, Eubanks continued touring and recording as a world-renowned jazz artist. Outside of his work as a musician, Eubanks maintains a passion for humanitarian projects. He loves volunteering for charities, works actively with The Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles, and advocates for music education.
