Lauren Sevian
Bio
Lauren Sevian was born in 1979, and relocated to New York city in 1997. Since her arrival in NYC, she has won multiple music awards, and played with a large host of talented musicians. She performs regularly around New York with her own band ‘LSAT’ which is co-led by Lauren Sevian, and fellow saxophonist Alexa Tarantino, bassist Christian McBride, and drummer E.J Strickland. Since the early 2000’s, Lauren has also been the main bari player for the Mingus Big Band, touring and recording extensively with the group up to the present day. She also leads the ‘Young Women’s Jazz Orchestra’, is on the faculty at the Manhattan School of Music, leads the Bard College Summer jazz program, and also directs the Jazz House Kids Summer workshop. In 2011, she won a Grammy along with the Mingus Big Band for their 2011 release, ‘Live at the Jazz Standard’. In 2019 she won the Downbeat rising star award for bari sax. She continues to live and work in NYC to this day.
