Bio

Max Roach (1924-2007) is one of the most important drummers in the history of jazz. Born in North Carolina and raised in NYC, Roach started after sitting in with Duke Ellington’s band when he was 18. He quickly became one of the most in demand drummers playing with the likes of Sonny Rollins, Miles Davis, and Charlie Parker. He was arguably one of the most influential drummers at the peak of the bebop era. Roach maintained an active performing career throughout the 1990’s and released over 50 albums as a leader.
