Michael Brecker

Bio

Michael Brecker was born in 1949 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He would start to play music at a very early age, as his dad was a pianist who introduced him to jazz. He attended music school first at Berklee College of Music, and then later for one year at Indiana university. After his short education period, he would relocate to New York City with his older brother, Randy. Brecker played a wide range of music during his long career, from jazz to rock to fusion and funk and back to jazz. He first found success with his brother Randy when they created their band The Brecker Brothers. The group would play jazz influenced rock and funk arrangements. During and after his time with the Brecker Brothers, he was becoming one of the most in demand players of his day. He would go on to associate with a staggering list of musicians and record on over 700 albums. Some of his most notable associations are; Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, Steely Dan, Chet Baker, George Benson, Quincy Jones, Steve Gadd, Yusef Lateef, Paul Simon, Lou Reed, and Joni Mitchell.
