Michael Mayo

biography

Michael Mayo is one of the youngest leading contemporary vocalists of our generation from Los Angeles (and recently converted New Yorker). Michael’s artistry is innovative and clearly ingrained in his neo-soul, R&B, jazz, funk-fusion music. Michael received his education at The New England Conservatory and the Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz. The Herbie Hancock Institute is among the most prestigious Graduate programs in the nation. Being the 3rd vocalist to ever be accepted into the program, he was taught and mentored by the one-and-only Herbie Hancock, and toured South America as Hancock’s featured vocalist. Now, he is an international touring artist and frequently performs with saxophonist, Ben Wendel.

Here’s what Michael had to say about his debut album, Bones…

“In many ways, this album was a letter to myself. I was in the closet for years, lying about who I truly was and felt. This album affirms you can live authentically and not be afraid to express it.”
