Paul Chambers

Bio

Paul Chambers was a jazz bassist who was born in Pittsburg in 1935. The height of Chambers' career was during the hard bop era in the 1950s and 60s. Chambers recorded over a dozen records as a bandleader and over 100 more as a sideman. Some notable collaborations include working with Miles Davis and with pianist Wynton Kelly. He was in high demand as a session musician and played on several of the most influential sessions in jazz. These include Brilliant Corners by Thelonious Monk, Coltrane’s Giant Steps, and Oliver Nelson’s the Blues and the Abstract Truth. Paul Chambers was also known for his bowed solos.
