Nubya Garcia

Biography

London-based saxophonist, composer, and DJ Nubya Garcia (born 1991) is among the UK jazz scene’s leading figures. Her music combines African, Caribbean, Latin American, and electronic elements, resulting in a powerful, groove-oriented sound. These eclectic influences originate from Garcia’s upbringing, with parents who shared a taste for all musical genres. Garcia studied with Jean Toussaint, who played saxophone with the Jazz Messengers, and graduated from the Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in 2016. She released her debut EP, “Nubya’s 5ive,” in 2017, and in 2018 released her second EP, “When We Are.” Both projects received critical acclaim, and established Garcia’s position as a burgeoning force in jazz. Since beginning her career, Nubya Garcia has toured all over the world, and released her debut album “Source” in 2020.
