Steve Davis
Biography
Described by Freddie Hubbard as “one of the greatest trombone players in the world,” Steve Davis (b. 1967) has established himself with his smooth sound and lyrical style. Davis grew up in Binghamton, New York, and studied with Jackie McLean at the Hartt School in Hartford, Connecticut. His first major gig came in 1989, when he performed with Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers. Since then, Davis has recorded extensively as a sideman and as a leader, appearing on over 130 records. Though he has recorded with a large cast of great jazz musicians, his longest running collaboration has been with the group “One for All.” This group features tenor saxophonist Eric Alexander, trumpeter Jim Rotondi, pianist David Hazeltine, bassist John Webber, and drummer Joe Farnsworth in addition to Davis. Other notable collaborations include Chick Corea, Ron Carter, and Larry Willis. Davis remains an active member of the jazz scene in New York and Connecticut, and released his most recent album, Correlations, in 2019.
