Victor Wooten
Bio
Victor Wooten was born in 1964 outside of Boise, Idaho. The youngest of five sons, his family was a military family so they were moving around a lot. Victor’s brother Regi is the one he credits with showing and teaching him the electric bass. The Wooten brothers performed for years as a family band, playing country shows in and around Williamsburg, Virginia, and even doing one overseas USO tour for the military. Shortly after this tour, Victor Wooten met the banjoist Bela Fleck, and together they would create the supergroup ‘the Flecktones’. They have recorded dozens of albums, been active for over 20 years, and have an amazing resume of collaborating musicians including Jeff Coffin, Roy Wooten, Chick Corea, and more. Victor Wooten’s style is heavily funk influenced, but his technical virtuosity sets him apart from other bassists of the genre. He is as solid as one can get, but possesses a rare lyrical quality in everything he does. He continues to live and teach at Victor Wooten’s Center for Music and Nature outside of Nashville, Tennessee.
