Biography

Woody Shaw (1944-1989) has become one of the most influential voices in modern jazz. Shaw is known for incorporating advanced harmonic sounds in his playing with flawless technique. Shaw released over 30 albums as a leader and played with many greats such as Eric Dolphy, Art Blakey, and McCoy Tyner. One of his most acclaimed albums, Rosewood, was nominated for two Grammy awards in 1979. In 1989 Shaw was elected into the Downbeat Hall of Fame.
